When I first started this travel blog, Event Traveller, I was embarking on a 12 month experience around South America. I first started in Argentina and then traveled up through Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia until reaching Venezuela.
During this trip the only way I could communicate was either via Email or via expensive phone booths located in the Internet cafes all over South America. I remember sat in an internet cafe spending an hour writing emails to all my contacts updating them on how the gap year was going. Nowadays thanks to the increase in technology and companies like Nobel, there are now better and more affordable ways of contacting friends and family in different countries.
Whilst Whatsapp is a game changer in terms of messaging with data, if you have family and friends which have still not joined or you need to contact your bank or university then using an application is not a solution. For the standard calls and texts with or without data then we have found another solution, NobelCom.
The NobelApp can be downloaded from the website listed and has some great features:
- Control Expenses with Call History
- Make Calls via WiFi/Data or Access Numbers
- Send International Text Messages
The cost of calling home from the USA to United Kingdom is less than 4cents a minute which is fantastic value and even lower for standard landlines.
NobelApp is a highly recommend option in which they offer some of the lowest rates in the world, great for anyone on a budget.
Remote Traveling
For the travellers that are visiting remote places without the proper infrastructure to have 3g/4g calls from your mobile then it is recommended to purchase Nobel Phone Cards, these will definitely come in handy. The biggest benefit of these call cards is that to operate them the user just dials the access number, enters the PIN and the destination number and start talking. Most towns and villages have access to at least one public phone so no matter where you are in the world you will always be covered. The Phone Cards are also great for emergency as having a backup way of communication is great in case something does happen to your phone.
